Blossom Dearie
Blossom Dearie was one of the vices that I picked up in the 70s, from catching her on the talk shows...one time I was going to go see her perform at some hotel bar or someplace like that in NYC, but I bottled out (not really my scene, I guess), but here is one of my favorite recordings by her:

"O Que Há, Tigresa?"
The Brazilian "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" Did you know that Brazil has the world's second largest Japanese population? (That is either true, or I misremembered it, or plain made it up, but some country has to have it...). The Lovin' Spoonful pop up at the five-and-a-half-minute mark.

He's Really "Ideal"
Magilla Gorilla does not want to live in a pet shop. The last time I saw a Peter Blegvad gig was at Speak in Tongues, where he remarked on some graffiti that he had seen in the basement: "Someone scribbled furiously 'I work in a pet shop!'"

The Monkees are our friends...
The Monkees doing the Hell-ishly titled "(Look Out) Here Comes Tomorrow)."
This was one of Laura Kennedy's favorite Monkees songs...she played bass in one of my first combos in Cleveland, then moved to NYC (actually her apartment was across from Charlie Beesley's) and formed the Bush Tetras. And, was also bassist in a Richard Hell project called Lester Meyers and The Thing (if I remember correctly). She recently received a liver transplant, actually, and would appreciate any help, via http://lklf.blogspot.com/.
Bonus:
Robert Wyatt doing another Monkees tune:
3 Upstart American Keith Rowes
The Monks Live in Germany - "Monk Chant"
The first time I heard The Monks was in Charlie Beesley's apartment on E. 6th.
It was truly, as Charlie would say, kookoo!

In Max's Kansas City...
...he was a belladonna child. Marc Bolan/Tyrannosaurus Rex/T. Rex/T-Rex doing "Ride A White Swan":
Johnny Thunders
One of Vic Godard's "comeback" singles was his ode to Johnny Thunders, of the New York Dolls (shown here live at Max's Kansas City):
and The Heartbreakers:
I had seen him a couple times live with the Dolls, and wondered how he got his hair to look like that...flash-forward a couple of years, and I was living in Brooklyn,
and got a job working as a busboy at Max's Kansas City, through the offices of Bradly Field...it was during a transit strike, there was hardly anyone there, and I was let go after a couple of hours, BUT, in that time, I did get to see Johnny come in, make a salad for himself, and promptly pass out in it. (Who needs Garnier Fructis?)

Subway Sect
Vic Godard & Subway Sect, besides being at the epicenter of the London punk scene,
were early endorsers of the work of Television, when groups such as The Damned and
Alternative TV were writing songs making fun of them...
Television
Television, "See No Evil"
Television has been playing, off and on, for more than 34 years.
They have been tuning even longer...
